Cheers Dave, it was a '99 1.4 which certainly wasn't bad for a first car compared with what some of my mates had, like a '91 1.1 Fiesta or a '90 1l Metro etc! Lowering springs, the Wolfrace alloys, a custom cat-back exhaust and some audio upgrades kept me happy for about two and a half years.
Gel 145 Posted April 22, 2018 Where does one start on an exciting thread like this one ? The Renault 16's were brilliant fully loaded cars.....back in the late 70's my Bank Manager had a word with me for writing too many cheques.....when asked where all my money was going....I told him I had a Dolomite Sprint.....he knew the feeling because he had an automatic R16 automatic with gears that had a mind of their own. I never actually owned a Ford Fiesta but was impressed how they drove and handled in comparison to earlier Ford's....my brother used to drive an XR2....was considered quite a quick car back in the day. The Nissan Almera was a bit boring to look at but got to say it looks ace once lowered and sporting a nice set of wheels. My first car was a mk2 Ford Cortina 1300....being a boy racer back then....I fitted a 1600E crossflow engine.....that was it !....I was hooked on cars from then on. Mk2 Cortina I grabbed off the Net :

Dr_broon 21 Posted April 22, 2018 My first car Was a Peugeot 205 xe. 954cc's of unlimited Screaming revs. It was burgundy... Just like this one. Was as basic a model as could be. No stereo or rear wiper.
Dave 87 Posted April 22, 2018 One up and coming modern classic that Simon! 205 GTi's are already fetching big numbers at classic auctions, so the smaller versions will eventually head the same way too. Good wee cars back in the day......deffo better than the offerings from Peugeot nowadays!! lol

Mk2 Cortina I grabbed off the Net : lol yup, thats where my modding career began too, only with the 70's mk3 Cortinas. Had a few of them, my second car was a mk4 Cortina in Jupiter red metallis (was a stunning colour) then had my first mk3.........a white with black vinyl roof 2000E. Kitted it out with wide white 8 spoke weller steels wheels, 4 spotlights, front and rear spoilers (RGA) and had a Janspeed back box (was fitted when I bought it). Upgraded the radio to an all singing and dancing Audioline radio cassette (younger members, ask your dad!) with a 5 band graphic equalizer and LED's that flashed to the music, along with Audioline shelf speakers that had built in brake lights!! lol Also had the obligitory fog lights bolted to the roof on the inside of the back window that were wired into the brake lights (see, we were pioneers of safety back then, we even invented the high level brake light!!!) Loved that car!! One I also grabbed from the net......and photoshopped my wheels and spotlights onto! (same as mine except mine had the black vinyl roof, not brown.)

Dave 87 Posted April 24, 2018 I sat in a brand spanking new 205 GTi 19 at the same car show in Glasgow that I saw the Mk1 MX5 being unveiled! Was a metalic blue one! Me and my best mate Jim took turns at sitting in it and taking each others pic to impress the ladeez! lmao Happy times 1989-

MK3 Cortina's were my bread and butter for close on 10 yrs. The 2.0 wasn't a great seller in rural Ireland but the 1600's were excellent sellers. I always found the mk3's a bit wayward....I once had a customer tell me he wouldn't touch a car that used Castor's instead of wheels....lol My slimline Cibie's bulbs used to blow on a regular basis (vibration and too little heat dissipation) but that didn't stop me transferring 'em onto numerous cars. For some strange reason I always associate Cortina's with CB radio's.

I can't remember what engine was fitted to the Tiger, was it a Holbay unit or the regular twin carb 1725cc ?

For some strange reason I always associate Cortina's with CB radio's. lmao....I was rteally into the old CB radios mate since they became legal in '81. Got my bruv to blame for that! lol Was always the first thing I fitted to all my cars right up until I sold my 96 ford escort zetec. Cb's died off then as the internet and modile phones took off, which is sad. Still got all my cb's, and ariels/swr meters, power supplies etc. One thing I hated on the mk 3's (and mk4/5's for that matter) were the dreaded rear void bushes! You had to replace them at every bloody MOT, and they would be great for maybe a couple of months and then the "rear end on sofa castors" would return! Deffo don't miss that aspect of them! Loving this topic, think we need one for "your car history" too!
