Hi Folks! It's competition time on Future Classic Cars. The competition is totally free to enter! The prize on offer is the Sornu Qalcomm 3.0 Bluetooth FM transmitter MP3 player. This device allows you to use your current car stereo to play MP3 files. It has 2 USB ports for charging, and a slot for memory cards so you can store all your music on a memory card and play it through your car stereo. Much better than having CD's/tapes rattling around in your car! Depending on the size of memory card, you could have your entire music collection in your car and available at the touch of a button. It also features Bluetooth for handsfree use of your phone, and a clear 1.44 inch LED display. Just the thing if you prefer to keep your modern classic cars OEM radio or if the one you have fitted doesn't play mp3's/usb and doesn't have Bluetooth. The competition runs like this. The first 30 members that join and post in the Future Classic Cars forum will be automatically entered into the competition. The winner will be drawn from those first 30 members to join! We were on holiday on the island of Jersey this week, and as usual I was car spotting (much to Gayle's annoyance, although she too joined in!). So, what did we spot? Here's the list! 6 Mk1 Mazda MX5's 2 Mk2 Mazda MX5's 1 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico 1 Ferrari Modena 1 Lamborghini Hurcan 1 Ford Escort mk2 6 Ford Fiesta mk4's 1 Ford Fiesta ST mk5 1 Nissan Skyline R34 3 Peugeot 205's 1 Mercedes 350 SL 1 VW Beetle (1970's) 3 VW new Beetles (1990's) 2 newish Ford Mustangs 2 Honda Civic MC Aerodecks (one was a vti with full VTIS kit) There were more but can't remember them all off hand just now. Only got photos of the 1st MX5 I spotted and the Civic Aerodeck. Was quite impressed as most of the cars appeared to be in really nice condition. We were away out on a winding coast road in the middle of nowhere when the Ferrari passed us, to be followed 5 mins later by the Mk1 Escort. This had been fully restored and looked like it had just rolled out the showroom, totally stunning and my fav car of the trip.Always wanted one!!

How do folks! Looks like we'll be adding to our list of current cars! So far we have a 2008 MINI Cooper, 2008 Ford Focus and a 1999 Honda Civic Aerodeck. Lately my heads been in a bit of a dark place through pressures from work etc and I've been a bit down to say the least. Gayle (my mrs) suggested that I need a project to work on to help lift my spirits a bit, and suggested I get the one car I've always wanted since they were launched.......a mark 1 Mazda MX5! I was at the car show in Glasgow secc when they did an unveiling of them back in 89/90 and the second the cover came off I fell in love with this cool looking little red sports car! For something so new it looked so retro (well, the design was inspired by the 1960's Lotus Elan)! So been trying to decide what way to go, whether a full on restoration of a basket case or go for one with a solid base to start with. Looking at the price of non mot'd rusty ones, we quickly decided to try and get one that was mot'd and as rust free as possible. This would also make it easier to get it home! So, went to look at one yesterday in Berwick - upon Tweed, but it had been badly bodged so would have spent more time redoing bad repairs. It had also apparently passed it's mot 3 days earlier, with plates welded on one sill that were coming off! Oh, and the battery was just loose in the boot, no bracket....but worst of all zero brakes! Only found that out on the test drive! So we walked away from it, as it was what I would call "gubbed"! Have spotted another for sale in a garage, so hoping we'll go and see this one soon. A nice limited edition one this time, but looks really nice condition. (mind you, the last one looked good in the photos so I'll reserve judgement! One things for sure, we are deffo getting one, just a matter of finding the right one at the right price. Plan is to slowly replace suspension, brakes, and any other bits as we go along and bring it up to show standard. I still have the aerodeck to work on at some point but it's taking a back seat for a while. Will let you all know how we get on and will get a project page going as soon as we get it! Dave

What makes a car a classic? Lots of things can enter a car into classic status, some more than others. Things like how rare it is, how popular or even unpopular it was, style, power etc. Thing is, some of the things that should or would make a car a classic don't necessarily mean it is! What do you think makes a car a modern classic? From the new cars that are being produced now, do you think we may have seen the last modern classic cars already?

Traded in my TypeR Civic for a MINI Cooper 08 plate (now known as Carly Cooper!) a while back as the running costs were just too much (as was the over stiff suspension!). Been running this around 2 years now and have to admit it's a great wee car! Mega fun on twisty back roads as it handles like a go kart, enough power to have fun with and cheap as chips to run. So this is what she was like when bought, just totally standard apart from being optioned with the chrome line kit for the exterior and interior wise she has the optional mood lighting. First thing to be done was to replace the timing chain, guides and tensioner as these are a known weak spot of the 1.6 engine in these. Next up, we go her racing stripes from BMW and Gayle and me fitted them ourselves. We were quite proud, managed to get them bob on straight both sides! Next up, decided to beef up her rump! Was originally looking for a MINI Cooper S rear spoiler, but found a rare "Aero spoiler" which are hard to come by so bought that and fitted it. Luckily, it was already in the same colour as her roof, so bolted straight on. Nice bit of kit, and went well with the black/sparkling silver theme. One thing I really didn't like were the 15 inch alloys that came standard on her. Really wanted a set of Cade alloys same as i have on the civic Aerodeck, so after a bit of searching eventually find a nice set of 17's which had the spokes in black (which is what I was going to paint them) and polished rims. Not Cades but ZCW alloys, which look almost identical. Got them 2nd hand for the bargain price of £100! Had to get special wheel nuts for them as the standards were too short, so got tuner spec ones which fitted a treat. Think the wheels really changed the look of her and go so well with the black/chrome that's on her. A quick shot of the interior Next up, decided I didn't want to get stranded with a puncture (previous escapade on a club run in my typeR prompted this!) so searched again and found the full space saver wheel fitment kit (including the wheel). Bit of a faff to fit but got it done and don't have to worry now If we get a puncture (although where we put the wheels that comes off is a different story!) Future plan is to fit the Pure DAB kit to her (identical to the Alpine kit) so I can have USB/DAB/Aux inputs etc. Looking at possibly an induction kit and if the exhaust ever goes, that'll be replaced with a stainless steel one. No plans to lower this as it's my daily. Follow Carly's progress in the Members Cars area of the forum.
